We’re living in different times. The stay-at-home order may mean that you’re not able to go visit your mom or gift her the usual ‘non-essential’ type treat this Mother’s day. If you are looking for ideas on how you can celebrate mom during this quarantine period, this list may help you out.
1. Serve her breakfast (in bed)
This is a great idea for persons living with mom. Serve her a spread of local favourites like oven bake, fried bake, sada roti, with whatever fillings/pairings she likes. If you need recipes, check out my favourite food blog Cooking with Ria. Of course, if she’s tired of the local thing, why not whip up a good old traditional American breakfast. Who say pancakes?
2.Virtual lunch or dinner lime
If you don’t live with mom, why not arrange to meet her online for a virtual lunch or dinner date using Zoom or any other video conferencing app. This is a great way for multiple families to hang out virtually. Agree to a time, set it up and have your food and drink ready.
3. Leave her alone
Because some moms are like that. The best thing you can give her is simply leaving her alone. Give her some space. She deserves the break.
4. Netflix party
Netflix Party is a Google Chrome extension, which allows you to watch Netflix remotely with your family and friends. Once your mom has a separate Netflix account, and the extension added to her desktop or laptop, you can watch a movie or TV series from your separate locations. The extension even includes a group chat feature so you can comment on the movie or TV show. FUN! Learn more here.
5. Clean up
Whether it’s her bedroom, the kitchen, the entire house, or apartment, consider tidying up around the house, de-cluttering her space, or giving her home a deep cleaning. A clear space means a clear mind. Gift her that.
6. A gift from a local business
Many local small businesses are offering some pretty amazing mother’s day deals. They include gift certificates and gift baskets. Many also offer delivery so you can stay put. Check this list for a few we’ve spotted.
7. Backyard lime
Do I really need to elaborate? Bring sips nah man.
8. Ask her what she wants
Here’s an idea. If you’re terrible at gift-giving, just ask the lady what she desires and give that to her. Who knows, maybe she’s had her eye on something so win-win.
Whatever you decide, cherish your mom while she is still around.
